Modernism - Barcelona’s way of showing the world which person was the best
It was something unique with the modernism in Barcelona. A town that been behind Madrid and France during hundred of years was suddenly rich and could rule its own activities. It was first and foremost the cotton industry that was the reason for Barcelona’s appearance as a wealthy and powerful town under the world exhibition in 1888. The great artists and architectures during this period were all of them supported by rich cotton managers. The most famous of these managers was Güell. He supported the famous Antoni Gaudi, known for La Sagrada Familia, Casa Battlò, Casa La Pedrera, Palau Güell, Parc Güell and the altar in the fantastic gothic cathedral at Mallorca. Other famous architects from the same period was Puig i Cadafalch and Domenech i Muntaner. The last named is responsible for Palau de la Musica and Hospital de la Pau. These ones are two fantastic original buildings. In many peoples eyes he was as good as Gaudi and even better.
