The modern Barcelona appears to be a brave mix of new and old style
The city Barcelona is in continual development and has been in development since 1850. With world exhibitions in both 1888 and 1929 plus the Olympic Games in 1992, the city has had a clear wish of being famous around the world. It is obvious that both the city hall, ”Ajuntament” and the regional government ”Generalitat de Catalunya”, have a political will of not letting the development of the city to the private trade and industry worlds´ temporary growth. Big projects from Ildefons Cerdas´ city project in 1850 and until today dominate the picture of the town. It is the mediator and will to great things. The art museum, MACBA, at the photo above is one example. The Olympic hill, Montjuic, has a lot of impressive buildings from the Olympic Games in 1992. The new water tower (done in 2005) has got a lot of attention around the world. In the press the structure has the name “The world’s biggest dildo”.
